Austin Richard Post born July 4, 1995, known professionally as Post Malone is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer.
Known for his variegated vocals, Malone has gained acclaim for blending genres and subgenres of hip hop, pop, R&B, and trap.
His stage name was derived from inputting his birth name into a rap name generator.
Incredible sparks of creativity can be found in the most unexpected places, and rapper Post Malone proved just that when he disclosed last year to Howard Stern that he often pens many of his chart-topping songs while on the toilet.
And he wasn’t kidding. In a recent interview with Alex Cooper on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Malone delved into his artistic process. “Sometimes I’ll bring a guitar in there,” he candidly shared with the host. “I mean, all the best lyrics are written on the s—-er. One-hundred percent.”
But that’s not the only factor contributing to his creative zone. Malone also attributed magic mushrooms to inspiring some of his finest lyrics. Cooper inquired whether these two elements went hand in hand or were separate ventures.
Turns out, it’s a bit of both.
“They are separate ventures, but I’ve never even thought about it that way because I’ve had some of the meanest s—s in my entire life off shrooms and beer,” Malone replied.
“It’d be beer and shrooms for like four days and not eating anything. And I will be like, ‘Guys, I’m gonna die right now…’ I lost like 10 pounds from this one trip.”
However, not all of Malone’s time on the toilet results in creative productivity. He admitted to sending selfies to friends, occasionally having FaceTime calls with his manager, or indulging in online shopping. But the latter activity has led to some complications.
“Everybody thinks every order I place is fake,” Malone chuckled. “They call me and they’re like, ‘Hey, we’ve had a lot of fraud.’ Little do they know I’m totally on the can and I have to run like a white noise machine or a little bit of water and I have to specifically get up and turn it off and then sit back down just so they don’t think, like, I’m in the bathroom. But if you’re on speakerphone, you can definitely tell if someone’s in the bathroom.”
Cooper summed up the interview by expressing how enjoyable it is to sit down with people because you never know where the conversation will lead.
As for Malone, his latest album, “Austin,” is already available for fans to enjoy.
